Worms and leeches
Elect so-and-so, re-elect so-and-so for mayor, for City Council. To all you bozos who want these bums elected and re-elected in office so bad, maybe you should pay for them to do nothing for the hard-working people. I vote to throw all the politician bums on a huge boat and ship them out to France because they would be at home with a bunch of pompous citizens.
So to you idiots who write for us to vote for these bums: What do these politicians do for you, because all they do for me is make my life a living hell. Democrats, Republicans —they are nothing but worms, leeches out to suck us dry.

Impressed by Moreno
I attended the city of Denton candidate forum on April 7. I listened attentively as all of the candidates answered the questions that were submitted by the audience and tried their best to finish in the allotted time.
I came away from that forum with some opinions I hadn’t expected. I’m sure all the incumbents and those running against them are each qualified in their own way, but I thought there were some good questions that deserved better answers.
One of those questions pertained to a property tax freeze for seniors that has already been passed in several communities in the metroplex. It is definitely past due for the seniors in Denton and I will join the fight to see it passed in our own community.
But the most important issue today is putting on the council the very best candidates for the job.
The one candidate that I felt gave the best answers to the questions put before him was Rudy Moreno, running against Mr. Ryan for Place 2 councilman.
I think he (Moreno) was shown to be well-qualified and very interested in taking our city to the next higher step it needs to be in the future.
Whatever happens to the lawsuit brought before the city pertaining to council terms is best left to the courts, but when I go to the polls, I will cast my vote for Mr. Moreno and encourage all my neighbors in Place 2 to do the same.

Denton
Tooting Mulroy’s horn
I have to toot Councilman Joe Mulroy’s horn as he will not do so for himself. I have never been turned away by Councilman Mulroy when I have needed help for the Denton Community Theatre.
Mr. Mulroy has sponsored, most generously every year, the two fundraisers DCT and the Campus Theatre hold every year. Councilman Mulroy served on the Denton Salvation Army board and during his tenure he donated rebuilt showers, covered all the Christmas “Forgotten Angels” with money to buy them presents, and replaced hundreds of presents as a result of theft.
Since leaving the advisory board of the Salvation Army, Mulroy continues to support us whenever asked and especially when we hold our annual luncheons.
Joe Mulroy has indeed been one of the most generous contributors in Denton for years and years but has always done so on a very low-profile basis.
Sorry, Mr. Mulroy, but the facts need to be exposed to those who are unaware of your charitable activities.
Phil Gallivan,
Denton
Thanks, Joe Mulroy
As a member of the Denia neighborhood, I want to express a big “thanks” to Joe Mulroy. While recently meeting with the Parks and Recreation Department and the project architect on a walking path for Denia Park, Joe helped us get approval for replacement of the sidewalk on Parvin Street, adjacent to the park.
Parts of it was useless on the day it was completed due to the sharp grade of the hill on Parvin. That is going to change soon, thanks to Joe Mulroy. I will keep a sharp eye on construction this time around.
We need to keep proven leaders like Joe Mulroy on our City Council. He has brought some innovative ideas to city management over his tenure and will do more with another term in office.
When we get our walking path completed and the Parvin sidewalk replaced, Denia residents will be looking around for other projects to bring before the city fathers and mothers.
We invite all Denia neighbors to come to our monthly meetings and let your views be heard. We need to address some property maintenance and serious code violations in our area. Come and be a part of making our community a better place to live.
Our next meeting is at 7 p.m. April 28 at the Denia Recreation Center for a mayoral candidates’ forum. That should be interesting.

Concerned candidate
I met Denton mayoral candidate Mark Burroughs several years ago while volunteering for the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival. Mark, at that time, expressed a great concern over the conditions of roads and bridges in Denton County, and he cited the infrastructure of Denton County as a serious unaddressed need.
As a frequent commuter to Dallas, I deeply appreciated Mark’s message regarding the need for better city planning to compete and keep up with the metropolitan area of D-FW.
Most people in Denton are seriously unaware just how fast Denton is growing, and it will take someone like Mark who’s not afraid to sort through dry, complex jargon to work with city managers and engineers.
Second, Mark’s personal interest and continued patronage in supporting the Denton Festival Foundation, which allows Dentonites an incredible opportunity to hear, experience, and taste the best Denton and the Southwest have to offer, is part of what makes Denton such a wonderful place to live.
Mark’s active participation within the Festival Foundation is ample proof of his willingness to serve the “quality of life” element important to his constituency.

Sky-high bonuses
This month top executives at American Airlines will be receiving millions of dollars in bonuses. The airline’s CEO explains that these bonuses are based on overall performance of the company.
Will someone please explain how low morale, safety issues and hundreds of thousands of inconvenienced and stranded passengers fit into an equation of an airline doing so well that these bonuses are justified, or where the money will come from?
Maybe more cutbacks or employee concessions?
