Re-elect McNeill

So many great things are happening in Denton, many times not reported. Perry McNeill has led our city government these last two years and in that time great momentum has gathered in the growth of our city.

In Mayor McNeill we have a “full-time” workhorse available to us who earns nothing from the city for his efforts.

Mayor McNeill has aggressively pursued a burgeoning taxpaying medical industry, leading to very beneficial job growth and residential development. Denton energy prices are provided at the lowest cost of any local providers.

New companies both wholesale and retail are coming to Denton at a very rapid pace, providing more employment opportunities and tax revenue.

Our airport is expanding at a phenomenal rate, with new companies basing their aircraft here.

Transportation issues and the aforementioned require continuity in knowledge and organization as inevitable population growth continues to find its way to Denton.

We need to keep the momentum going for another two years under the leadership of Mayor Perry McNeill!

Phil Gallivan,

Denton

Denton needs Mulroy

The city of Denton needs Joe Mulroy to serve his next term on the City Council. The attention to public safety, both police and fire, has been elevated and focused since Mr. Mulroy has been a member of the council.

During his tenure, Denton has added 18 police officers and 16 firefighters. The addition of a new fire station and updated equipment has vastly improved the work environment. The morale has never been better.

For the first-responders, Mr. Mulroy listens, evaluates and then acts decisively, with conviction. I am grateful for his leadership. Please vote for his continued service.

Blake McConnell,

Denton

Vote for ‘Jerry Mo’

I have been a resident of Denton for only the last 4 1/2 years, moving from Arlington, where I have been in the real estate/building/development business for 30 years.

Seeing a city like Arlington grow from 75,000 to over 400,000 and being a part of its growth, I see the city of Denton in the same era as Arlington was 20 years ago.

Fortunately, the city has a city manager, George Campbell, who came from Arlington and knows what growth is all about.

Shortly after moving here, I met Jerry Mohelnitzky — “Jerry Mo” — and have been helped many times over by him guiding or advising me around the city in several areas  such as the chamber of commerce, economic development, planning and zoning, City Council, and several area businesses that I do business with.

If only he is given the opportunity by your vote in this upcoming election to help the rest of the residents of Denton like he has done for me, Denton will continue to shine even more in the future.

I would encourage you to take a moment and review his biography, or better yet, meet him.

You won’t be disappointed.

Richard Moore, Ph.D.,

Vote for Mulroy

I am writing in support of Joe Mulroy for City Council. Mr. Mulroy’s fact-finding and analytical approach to problem solving led to an agreed settlement of a 10-year dispute between the city and the Fire Pension Board.

In a matter of weeks, Mr. Mulroy achieved an outcome fair and beneficial to all parties. His longtime business experience and workplace knowledge allowed Mr. Mulroy to work with both sides to achieve a positive resolution.

Both the city of Denton and the Denton firefighters have benefited from his presence on the City Council.

Please vote to re-elect Joe Mulroy so that he may continue to serve all the citizens of Denton.

Timothy J. Tarlton,

Toothless watchdog

Our city charter is being affronted and mocked in the public square to no one’s apparent concern.

The current City Council term limits debate would be a comedy if the ploy weren’t so profoundly serious.

Pete Kamp, a very fine lady and councilperson, I’m sure, should never have been allowed to file for re-election this spring. Period.

Anyone reading at a third-grade level should understand why if they spend two minutes reading Article 2, Sec 2.01 C of the charter.

Taken to its proposed absurd extreme, some folks now suggest with a straight face it’s OK for a councilperson to change addresses every six years and remain on council in rotating seats until they die — or Loop 288 gets done. Clearly, such is neither the spirit nor the letter of our original city charter as it was written or intended.

The saddest part of this soap opera is a once-great small-town newspaper sitting by admittedly confused and willing to wait on a judge before it takes sides.

This newspaper used to be a defender of truth and an outspoken watchdog over all things public in Denton. Political candidates were heavily scrutinized and endorsed. Even the smallest open-meeting violation brought forth editorial outrage.

But no more.

Now it consults Magic 8-Balls to analyze what should be painfully obvious. How sad, indeed.

Back Mulroy

I currently sit on several boards with City Councilman Joe Mulroy. I know that Joe will come to each meeting extremely well-prepared and knowledgeable concerning even the most complex issues.

Joe is always willing to ask the tough questions and expects an honest and straightforward answer. He believes that responsibility and accountability go hand in hand.

Joe is a well-respected man of action, whether it be in his professional career, his generous support of community organizations or in his public service to the citizens of Denton.

Please join me in re-electing Joe Mulroy to the Denton City Council.

Dick Smith,

Denton
