Mohelnitzky’s record
The most important skill any government officeholder can hope to master is the art of effective communication — with fellow staff members, other agency representatives and members of the private sector. Years ago, we met such an extraordinary communicator at a chamber of commerce banquet and today that man — Jerry Mohelnitzky — is a candidate for an at-large position on the City Council.
Jerry goes by “Jerry Mo.” Before he became Denton’s Chamber of Commerce chairman, he worked tirelessly to include key officials and agencies in chamber business. Toward that end, he worked inclusively with representatives from UNT, TWU and DISD, members of the Denton City Council and various Denton County officials, major business officers and owners, and state officials.
The responses to Jerry’s efforts at inclusion were incredible during that period of time. Unfortunately, the bridges Jerry worked so hard to build are again broken, and the city of Denton needs Jerry Mo to step in once again and rebuild the working relationships that help to make Denton a great place to live and work.
Jerry has been a leader and a doer in every effort he has tackled, whether chairman of the chamber board, 2005 Transportation Bond Committee member, Charter Review Committee member, Economic Development Partnership Board member or his many civic responsibilities.
We encourage you to take a look at Jerry Mo, to get to know him. And when you do, we think you’ll agree there is no better communicator, no finer at-large candidate for the City Council.
Pat and Tommy Caruthers,
Denton
McNeill is pro-business
I am really sorry that the mayor and City Council races have pro-business people trying to unseat pro-business incumbents. Over the past four years, the mayor and council have been on the same page and have made great strides to address serious city issues that were previously in discussion but never resolved.
Mayor Perry McNeill has worked hard for Denton in so many ways over the years, but I want to focus on the past few years and the now-unified council that our mayor has led.
Denton, of course, is in the right place at the right time in one of the most dynamic metroplexes in the nation. We’re going to grow, but the quality of that growth is in the hands of our elected leaders.
Mayor McNeill and this council have asked tough questions of the city staff and have done their homework by requiring more and more information in order to make fully informed decisions regarding Denton’s finances, budgets, staffing and operating efficiency.
We didn’t elect the city staff to govern for us, and now we have a council that does its homework and doesn’t delegate major strategic decisions to the staff.
I urge you to vote early to re-elect Perry McNeill as our mayor and keep his strong leadership working for all of us.
Rob Gentry,
Denton
We’re for ‘Jerry Mo’
We are writing with regard to City Council candidate, Jerry Mohelnitzky. We have personally known Jerry for many years but more important have worked with him on many projects that benefit our city. Jerry is just the kind of person you want to serve in our city government. He has a keen business sense and a love for people that is apparent from the moment you meet him.
Jerry genuinely cares about Denton.
We contacted him and asked for help in funding the DC Best Robotics Competition for high school students. Within a week, he had developed a plan to raise money and secured over half the funds needed to save the organization.
Jerry has, through service in many civic and city organizations, become keenly familiar with our city and has innovative ideas for ways to lead Denton on the right path. We urge you to join us and support “Jerry Mo” in his bid for the City Council.
Laurence and Donna McClendon,
Denton
McNeill for mayor
I have known Perry McNeill for 20-plus years. I worked closely with him for seven years on the Denton Chamber of Commerce board of directors and many projects and events at the chamber. Perry’s motivation was always to serve people.
I have always been impressed with Perry’s integrity and his ability to speak the truth. Having worked with him so many years on so many projects and events, I had many occasions to see this in application. Perry champions values and commitment to ethical conduct.
He courageously does and says the “right” thing even when others may not agree or when he may be criticized as a result. Perry is a man of humble character, so he doesn’t often blow his own horn.
Being retired, Perry has had the time necessary to be focused full time on the job as mayor of the city of Denton and its people and their needs. He has the time to listen, the time to research, the time to plan. He uses his resources and spends most of his time devoted to the position of mayor.
I am supporting Perry for re-election because he has started the race strong, and I believe he will finish the race strong; and that we will be pleased as residents of Denton with the job he has done when his second term is completed. Please join me in voting for Perry McNeill.
Priscilla Sanders,
Denton
A vote for Burroughs
I support Mark Burroughs for mayor of Denton. I have known him and his family for more than 18 years.
Mark is smart, ethical, honest and hardworking. He has the proven skills and ability to form unity and direction so that people and programs work together for the common good.
Mark is very active in Denton and Denton County. He builds community and consensus by way of many volunteer positions. (See www.markburroughs.com for details.)
Mark was on the City Council from 1998 through 2004, and served as mayor pro tem. He has worked hard to make Denton a better place. Let’s keep our eyes on the vision of Denton that we, the community, have created.
Denton has many different people with different ideas and backgrounds. Mark brings people together and helps build a better Denton for all. Please join me in supporting Mark Burroughs for mayor. Vote on Saturday, May 10, or in early voting.
Joanne Shipley Simmons,
Denton
Mulroy listens
Joe Mulroy is a man who will listen to what you have to say. And if what you are saying is good for all the residents of Denton, Joe Mulroy will champion your cause.
I have known Joe Mulroy for a number of years. Joe is honest — a man of integrity — and Joe is a very generous man.
I count it a blessing to be able to call Joe Mulroy my friend.
I urge all the residents of Denton who care for the whole city to vote for Joe Mulroy and re-elect him to the City Council.
Mark R. Chew,
Denton
