Kamp rates 6 Cs
Pete Kamp:
Capable — Years of council problem-solving experience; citywide growth, transportation, neighborhood action, environment, animal welfare.
Competent — Well read; well informed; well spoken, to the point.
Competitive — Traveling statewide and nationally to sing Denton’s praises.
Caring — Member and/or board member (past or present) of most of the charitable organizations in town. You name them; she’s been there.
Concerned — About you, us, Denton and our bright future.
Vote Kamp for City Council. Can you in good conscience vote otherwise?
Marilyn Sisson,
Denton
Denton needs Kamp
Denton needs Pete Kamp on the City Council! She has been a dedicated, informed,
conscientious leader during the time she has served. She has given of her time, abilities and leadership, and is willing to continue to serve us because she is involved in projects for the city that she does not want to leave unfinished.
Why would we turn down such a gift?
I have known Pete all her life (literally). She exhibited her leadership skills as a
young girl. As a Girl Scout leader at camp, I saw her draw her friends into creative
discoveries and projects — sometimes more popular projects than we Scout leaders
had planned.
She continued to be a leader in her school years, in her business life and now on the City Council. She studies the issues carefully before she casts a vote, and she works in specific areas — such as the animal shelter and transportation.
When our neighborhood was concerned about a proposed development, she held a neighborhood meeting to listen to our concerns. She understands how to help city government work to benefit its residents and that is her goal. Vote for Pete Kamp for City Council, Place 5.
Dorothy Adkins,
Denton
Re-elect McNeill
Perry McNeill deserves another term as mayor. During his first term, he has demonstrated the ability to work with, and bring together, our council and other community leaders to improve the business and cultural opportunities in Denton.
In addition to his time as mayor and councilman, Perry McNeill has served the residents of Denton as chairman of our Chamber of Commerce, chairman of Denton Medical Destination Committee, founding chairman of Support Our Police, and numerous other boards and commissions that have helped raise the profile of Denton.
In Perry McNeill we have a person who demonstrates the good judgment and integrity we expect in our mayor. We believe he has earned a second term and hope you will join us in re-electing this proven leader.
Phil and Polly Diebel,
Denton
Conflict of interest
In this day and age, we need elected officials who rise above the norm and demonstrate good ethics. We have all seen what the lack of ethical standards has created at every level of government — city, county, state and federal.
On June 21, 2005, then-Mayor Euline Brock signed city Ordinance No. 2005-164 approving a five-year contract with Sawko & Burroughs to collect city delinquent taxes. This contract expires June 20, 2008, with an option to extend through June 30, 2010.
To date this contract as yielded more than $300,000 to the bottom line of Sawko & Burroughs.
Mayoral candidate Burroughs has indicated on various occasions that he does not see this contractual arrangement as a conflict of interest and his law firm should continue collecting delinquent taxes for the city if he is elected mayor May 10, despite language in the firm’s contract that seems to discourage such an arrangement (Denton Record-Chronicle, April 14).
Being a good lawyer, Mr. Burroughs would seek to have a juror dismissed if he confessed to have a contractual arrangement with the judge but thought it wouldn’t affect his voting. To restate an old adage, if it looks like a conflict of interest, then it probably is.
Cast your votes wisely in the upcoming elections.
A.R. Jordan,
Denton
For Mohelnitzky
Please join me by voting in the May 10 election for City Council at-large candidate Jerry Mohelnitzky.
A man of integrity with a “can-do” attitude, Jerry is one of those special people who works tirelessly for his community and tackles even the most difficult tasks with a positive approach.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build cooperative relationships among varied groups only add to Jerry’s impressive list of qualifications for city leadership.
Jerry Mohelnitzky is a leader in every sense of the word. Please show your support by casting your vote for “Jerry Mo!”

Mulroy’s qualities
Please consider re-electing Joe Mulroy for City Council, Place 6. I serve with Joe on the Fire Department Pension Board. I have seen first-hand how able and honest he is. He resolved a 10-year-old dispute in less than one month. This saved the city several thousand dollars in legal fees.
He balances the needs of all sides, and comes up with a solution that’s fair to all concerned.
The qualities that make him such a valuable pension board member are the same ones that make him an effective council member. These qualities are:
* Integrity — He is an honorable man who sticks by his word.
* Low tolerance for foolishness — Joe cuts through it. He gives straight answers, and insists on getting straight answers.
* Being methodical — Before making a decision, he gets the facts. Equally important, if not more so, he faces the facts, even if they are unpleasant, and makes decisions based on the facts. He will do what is best in the long run, not what is expedient.
* Experience and common sense — Joe has practical experience running large organizations, balancing budgets and making sure everyone is treated fairly. He is also realistic and fiscally prudent.
If you would like to be served by a council member who is honorable, capable and dedicated to doing what is best for all the residents of Denton, Joe Mulroy, Place 6, is your man.
John Steger,
Denton
