Decorated TWU gymnast Courtney Arno-Templet was given another honor on Sunday when she was presented with the President’s Award at the TWU athletic department’s 2007-08 awards banquet.
Arno-Templet, a senior from Coppell, led the Pioneers to their ninth USA Gymnastics collegiate national championship last month. She received the award for her excellence in sports, academics and promotion of the university.
The Kitty Magee Award for most dedicated student athlete was shared by gymnast Brista Michael and basketball player Jennifer Schilb. Soccer player Sue Cribbes won the Jo Kuhn Award for outstanding leadership, and Michael earned the Golden Cast Award, for the athlete most conscientious about treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.
Outstanding athlete awards for each sport went to Arno-Templet, Jacqueline Horner (soccer), Meagan Peiser (softball), Renee Renz (basketball), and Heather Marcus and Kasye Richmond (volleyball).
On Tuesday, TWU held a reception for its gymnastics team during which Denton Mayor Perry McNeill read a proclamation declaring the day as “TWU Pioneers Gymnastics Day” in Denton.
