There are some changes happening in our area including course improvements, new management agreements and new course ownership.

TexasWoman’s University Pioneer Golf Course

The Texas Woman’s University Pioneer Golf Course staff continues to follow their course improvement plan announced last year. A trailer has been put in place in the parking lot at the course to serve as the temporary offices and clubhouse where golfers will check in. The old clubhouse is scheduled to be torn down in the next few days to make room for the construction of the new building.

The Club at Runaway Bay Golf Course

Warrior Golf Development, LLC, a part of Warrior Custom Golf headquartered in California, announced it has acquired The Club at Runaway Bay golf course at Lake Bridgeport. The 18-hole regulation-style golf course with a 30,000-square-foot clubhouse is part of an investment plan Warrior officials say will be made available to golfers.

Timber Links at Denton Golf Club

I.R.I. Golf Group has agreed to take control and management of Timber Links at Denton and The Golf Club at McKinney. I.R.I. is a subsidiary of Lynd Residential Properties.

Timber Links at Denton and The Golf Club at McKinney were both designed by Lyndy Lindsey as apartment communities. Memberships to both facilities are available and residency is not required. Each location has a nine- and 18-hole golf course, respectively, with swimming pools, fitness centers and other country club amenities in a unique apartment setting.

I.R.I. Golf Group has offices in Dallas and other states and manages six golf facilities in Texas.

DAGA tournaments announced

The Denton Area Golf Association has announced three upcoming tournaments.

Tee times will begin 10 a.m. Saturday, at Turtle Hill Golf Course in Muenster for an individual stroke play event.

Entry fee of $50 per player includes green and cart fee, sausage hot dog, a drink, and the opportunity to win cash prizes.

The tournament will be flighted and will pay gross and net winners.

A 2-player scramble, blind draw, is scheduled with beginning tee times at 9 a.m. May 3 at the Timber Links at Denton Golf Club.

Entry fee of $35 per player includes green and cart fee with the opportunity to win gross or net cash prizes.

A flighted individual stroke play tournament will begin with tee times at 9:30 a.m. May 17 at the Runaway Bay Golf Course in Bridgeport.

Entry fee is $50 per player and includes green and cart fee, range balls and the opportunity to win gross or net prize money.

Another hole-in-one

Greg Latimer, assistant golf professional at Lantana Golf Club, has announced another hole-in-one at Lantana.

Charlie Gagan fired his miracle shot on the club’s 172-yard No. 4 with a 5-iron on April 2. Witnesses were Vinnie Pastori, Ed Alern and Gene Lucht.
