Barry Vermillion / Golf Notes
RSVP Cornerstone Golf Classic coming up09:18 AM CDT on Thursday, May 8, 2008
Since the demise of the Medal of Honor tournament that was held annually in Gainesville, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program Cornerstone Golf Classic is now my favorite yearly charity golf tournament.
For those of you that have not played in this tournament, I can tell you that you are missing a fun and worthy event that has developed into a true area golf classic with substantial sponsorships.
Registration and range warm-up will begin at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Bridlewood Golf Club, 4000 W. Windsor Dr., in Flower Mound. The Florida Scramble format tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
And always in my favor, Callaway scoring will be used to determine some of the winning teams. That means, in spite of me, even my team has a chance to be victorious.
On course events will include a longest drive contest for male and female golfers, straightest drive, closest to the pin, and two lucrative hole in one contests — one with a prize of $10,000, the other a chance to win a new Ford Focus courtesy of Bill Utter Ford.
The tournament player gift bag contents this year include a AUREUS golf shirt, Titleist golf balls, a gift certificate from Golf Etc. in Flower Mound, logo hat, Boagie Box breakfast, sodas and water courtesy of Coca Cola Bottling Company, a Thermos coffee mug from Profit Plus, two Studio Movie Grill movie passes, Whataburger and Sonic coupons, Purell hand sanitizer and more.
There will be ex-NFL players attending and or playing in the tournament. Golfers will have the opportunity to have their photographs taken with them.
A silent auction, luncheon, and awards ceremony will be conducted at the end of play.
Registration fee is $125 per player.
Art Shepherd, Tournament Chair, said there are a few player slots still open and that if you want to register you must call RSVP Denton at 940-383-1508 to confirm a slot no later than noon Friday, May 9.
To learn more about RSVP, go to their Web site at www.rsvpgolfclassic.com .
