Softball: Aubrey surges past Maypearl in Game 1 of regional semifinals

08:09 AM CDT on Friday, May 16, 2008

MAYPEARL — Aubrey took control of its Class 2A Region II semifinal series with an 8-3 win over Maypearl on Thursday.

It was the fifth straight playoff win for the Lady Chaparrals (28-2), who will return home for Game 2 of the series at 7 p.m. tonight.

Maypearl (19-5) took an early 1-0 lead before the Aubrey offense got started in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Chaps scored five in the frame on a combination of hits, walks and errors. Kasey Carlock delivered the big blow with a two-run double.

Kylie Roos earned the win for Aubrey by striking out 15. She had six walks but allowed only one hit.

“Kylie pitched very good under the circumstances. She did a great job,” said Aubrey head coach Shon Ranton. “We understand they’re backed into a corner and they’re gonna play [in Game 2]. We will be in our comfort zone, but we know we have to put forth a good game.”
