WICHITA FALLS -- Aubrey held four opponents under 40 points in winning the Division II bracket at the Fantasy of Lights tournament on Saturday.

In the championship game on Saturday, Aubrey surged late to a 42-34 win over Slaton behind 14 points from Presley Statsny and nine from Jac Bullock, who was named the bracket MVP. Statsny and Sidney Karr also made the all-tournament team.

The Lady Chaparrals (7-0) topped Floydada in the semifinals, 47-39, earlier Saturday, led by 16 points from Karr and 13 from Bullock.

They had perhaps their toughest test in the late game on Friday, however, when Aubrey rallied from a six-point halftime deficit for a 38-33 win over Bangs.

In its first game on Friday, Aubrey took a 39-12 halftime lead over Bowie and cruised to a 60-34 win. Karr (15 points), Kenzie Taylor (13) and Statsny (11) paced the Lady Chaps.

“Overall I thought we did a good job,” said Aubrey head coach Johnny Hodge. “They showed a lot of mental toughness and hung in there. It was a good tournament for us.”

Aubrey will return to the court on Monday, playing Melissa at 1 p.m. at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
