10:13 AM CDT on Sunday, October 14, 2007
ARGYLE — Argyle clinched the District 8-3A volleyball title on Saturday by defeating Bowie in four games, 25-15, 28-30, 25-22, 25-14.
The Lady Eagles (23-8, 11-0) still have three matches remaining in the regular season but already have sewn up the crown thanks to Saturday’s win against Bowie, which entered the day in a three-way tie for second place with Whitesboro and Decatur.
Jojo Fletcher paced Argyle with 11 kills and 21 digs on Saturday. Bailey O’Brien added 12 kills and five blocks, while Jessica Bonfield had 29 assists, five kills and two aces. Leah Woodson was another defensive stopper for the Lady Eagles with eight digs and two aces.
Argyle tries for its 12th straight district win Tuesday at Bridgeport.
Liberty Christian d. Lubbock Trinity
ARGYLE — The Liberty Chris-tian Lady Warriors responded to their biggest challenge in district play with their best match of the season, defeating Midland Chris-tian 25-14, 25-18, 25-19, on Friday night.
Liberty followed that win with an easier victory Saturday against Lubbock Trinity, 25-21, 25-10, 25-8, to officially clinch the TAPPS 5A District 1 title. Liberty is now 9-0 in district play and 25-7 on the season, with one game remaining before the playoffs begin.
Liberty’s strong play kept Midland, who entered the match with a 6-1 district mark, bottled up throughout.
Caitlin Reece had 40 assists for Liberty. Tally Blair had 17 kills, Whitney Hand had 15 kills and Rachael Sexton added 12 kills.
Saturday’s match looked like it might turn out close, with Liberty winning the first game, 25-21.
“We realized that we were going to have to get a little more aggressive on offense,” Liberty head coach Lisa Deaver said. And the Lions did, whipping Lubbock in the last two games.|
