Boys basketball: Eagles win Fort Worth tournament

FORT WORTH — Argyle won the Bagg Insurance Invitational by beating Gatesville 73-47 on Saturday.

Caden Dickerson led Argyle in scoring with 15 points. Erik Katzen and Billy Bruce Carroll added 12 points each.

The Eagles (12-1) will host Wichita Falls on Tuesday.

Denton 60, Arlington 50

The Colony 60, Denton 42

FLOWER MOUND — Denton split two games in the Flower Mound Tournament on Saturday.

In the first game, Denton beat Arlington 60-50. Joey Triana led Denton with 20 points. Spencer Stewart scored 13 and Desmond Taylor added 10 points.

Later in the day, Denton (4-9) lost to The Colony 60-42. Triana once again led Denton in scoring with 12 points. Taylor added 10 points.

“After losing games by big amounts on Thursday, we come out and competed really well and didn’t give up,” said Denton head coach Harold Jackson. “If we continue to compete well, we’ll get better.”

Denton will host Carrollton R.L. Turner at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Colony 60, Ryan 56 (OT)

Ryan 62, Arlington 57 (OT)

FLOWER MOUND — Ryan came out on the opposite end of two overtime games on Saturday at the Flower Mound Tournament. The Raiders lost to The Colony but defeated Arlington.

Ryan (6-6) dropped its third straight game in the opener despite 28 points from Drew Watson. Tyler Sain added 11 points for the Raiders.

In their tournament finale, the Raiders rebounded against the Colts. Watson led Ryan with 30 points, follwed by Chaz Garrett with nine. Sain and Carlton Thomas added eight points apiece.

Ryan will host Justin Northwest at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Ponder 55, Sachse 48

GARLAND — Ponder defeated its second Class 5A team in as many days on Saturday with a 55-48 win over Sachse at the Brooke Nichols Shootout.

The Lions (13-1) rallied from a two-point halftime deficit by outscoring Sachse 18-5 in the third quarter. Nathan McPherson scored eight of his team-high 22 points during that run. Isaiah Boxell added 13 points in the game for Ponder.

“We haven’t won over here in a long time,” said Ponder head coach Doug Boxell. “Playing against this 5A competition, you get pushed and shoved a little more. It’s good for our kids.”

Ponder will play Tuesday at Lake Dallas.

Sanger 48, FW All Saints 41

FORT WORTH — The Sanger Indians held on to win their consolation game in the Bagg Insurance Invitational, downing Fort Worth All Saints, 48-41, on Saturday.

After allowing All Saints to take a 17-13 lead in the first quarter, the Indians turned up the defensive pressure taking a one-point lead by halftime and a six-point lead in the third quarter.

Luke Johnson led the Indians (9-4) with 15 points and Jay Herring added 13. Guard Cameron Miller was named to the all-tournament team

Sanger next hosts Nocona at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Liberty Christian 66,

Pampa 56

GARLAND — Liberty Christian used a 20-point third quarter to pull away from Pampa and win 66-56 at the Brooke Nichols Shootout on Saturday.

“We didn’t play particularly well in the first half,” said Liberty head coach Richard Scofield. “We took control in the third quarter.

Dylan Fife scored 19 for Liberty. Stuart Hicks added 15, and Christian Scofield scored 12.

Liberty (8-4) next plays at John Paul II on Tuesday in Dallas.

Little Elm 52, Lake Dallas 34

DECATUR — Lake Dallas lost to Little Elm on Saturday in its final game of the Decatur Tourn-ament.

James Franklin led the Falcons (3-7) in scoring with 13 points, and Xavier Rogers added 12 points. Both players earned all-tournament honors.

“We’re making progress. We played well until the third quarter,” said Lake Dallas head coach Matt Clark. “Their defensive pressure changed the way we played. I think in a couple of weeks we’ll be a lot better.”

Krum 81,

Wichita Falls Rider 51

DECATUR — The Krum boys won the Decatur Tournament on Saturday by beating Class 4A Wichita Falls Rider. Victor Cris-tales scored 10 points for Krum (8-3). Justin Wallace added six points.
