Try a new gin drink: The Londoner

A tip of the hat to Broker's Gin

11:07 AM CDT on Sunday, July 20, 2008

What could be more British than a London man off to work in a three-piece suit with his black bowler hat and long, black umbrella at his side? Slap that image on a bottle of gin, and you've got the total London experience.

Created by brothers Martin and Andy Dawson, Broker's Gin ($19/750 milliliters) is "a gin-lover's gin, made from 100 percent English wheat and infused for 24 hours with a mix of botanicals from a 200-year-old gin recipe," Andy explained at a recent tasting in Dallas.

Broker's has crisp grapefruit, juniper and pear aromas with hints of cinnamon and licorice on the nose. It's bone-dry with refreshing citrus flavors and a round, lush ending, and available at most fine-spirits shops.

Add nothing but ice for an ideal martini, or try the following drink, created by Joe Wood of CocktailStars.com.

The Londoner: Squeeze 2 lime wedges into a shaker and add 2 ounces Broker's Gin, 1 ounce pink grapefruit juice and 1/2 ounce blackberry liqueur. Fill the shaker with ice cubes, and shake vigorously until the shaker is freezing.

Strain into a chilled martini glass, and garnish with a lime wheel.

See www.brokersgin.com for more cocktails and some truly dreadful gin jokes.
