Wine of the Week: Alois Lageder, Alto Adige, Pinot Bianco

10:51 AM CDT on Wednesday, May 7, 2008

Alois Lageder, Alto Adige, Pinot Bianco 2006, $11.99- $15.99

Here is one luscious white wine. Made at this family-owned winery, it boasts tropical fruit aromas and flavors that are enlivened by citrusy acidity in a medium-bodied package suitable for a hearty risotto.

The Alto Adige region in northern Italy next to Austria was once part of that country and has been part of Italy only since the early 1900s. The region is a blend of Italian and German language and culture, which is reflected in the other name for the region: Südtirol.

Alois Lageder uses solar energy and the force of gravity to move wine in the winery as well as adhering to biodynamic agricultural practices in the vineyard. The result is high-quality wines across the board, so you can't go wrong trying other Lageder wines.

Available at Centennial Fine Wine & Spirits, Central Market, Mr. G's Beverage and Deli Center, Pogo's Wine & Spirits and Stoney's Fine Wine and Market.
