Santa Fe film premieres July 22
12:00 AM CDT on Sunday, June 28, 2009
A new documentary film about the history of Santa Fe, N.M., will be shown for the first time July 22 at the city's Lensic Performing Arts Center. The premiere is part of the celebration of the city's 400th anniversary, which begins this year.
El Corazón de Santa Fe (The Heart of Santa Fe) looks at the history of Santa Fe's Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the religious and cultural heritage of the area.
The first Catholic church was built on the cathedral site by Spaniards in 1610.
The current cathedral was dedicated in 1887, and the pope designated it a basilica in 2005.
Silver Horn Entertainment filmmaker Tony Martinez of Frisco directed the documentary.
His family has lived in Santa Fe for more than 15 generations.
Tickets to the film showing and the post-premiere reception are available by phone at 505-988-1234 or www.tickets santafe.org.
Later this summer, a DVD of the documentary will be available for $25 from the cathedral's gift shop.
Proceeds benefit the groups that helped produce the film: Friends of the Cathedral Basilica and the Santa Fe Community Foundation.
