About the brain

UT Southwestern Medical Center will host "New Ways to See and Think About the Brain" from 9:30 a.m. to noon today in the T. Boone Pickens Biomedical Building, 6001 Forest Park Road, Dallas. Researchers from UT Southwestern and McGill University will discuss new ways to examine brain function, individualize medical treatment and screen for genetic diseases. The public symposium, geared for a lay audience, is sponsored by the Dallas-based Child Brain Foundation. Registration is $25. Stress success: St. Andrew United Methodist Church kicks off its 2010 free public lecture series tonight with "Life on Life's Terms," a discussion on dealing with stress, with Patti Hall, manager of wellness and related services at the Hazelden Foundation. Leap for life: Baylor's Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital will hold a free education program from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for cardiovascular patients.
