Dallas Morning News Editorial Board recommendations for the May 10, 2008 municipal elections:

School district races and ballot items

Dallas ISD voters should approve bond package
04/23/08: While not exactly a Hobson's choice – "Your money or your life!" – it's a tough call for DISD voters. It's especially difficult when the district's integrity is foremost on voters' minds, fueled by a drumbeat of negative headlines. All things considered, DISD cannot afford to have this crucial bond rejected at the polls.

Adam Medrano for Dallas ISD District 8
04/22/08: Pedro Alvarez admits he's not qualified to sit on the Dallas school board. This alone is enough to recommend that District 8 voters return incumbent Adam Medrano to the Dallas school board. Although Mr. Alvarez says his opponent isn't qualified either, Mr. Medrano, 32, shows more potential.

Oak Cliff needs a high school for the 21st century
03/15/08: When the architects were designing the old Oak Cliff High School (now Adamson High) in the early 1900s, there was no way they could predict today's technologies. How could they imagine laptops when Charles Lindbergh hadn't even flown over the Atlantic?

Can't afford to wait: May is best date for DISD bond election
03/17/08: The proposed $1.3 billion bond package is short on bells and whistles and largely focused on bricks and mortar. Schools across the city would be repaired and replaced. Many existing buildings would be modernized, and technology would be upgraded. Southern Dallas, where the needs are greatest, would become home to some of the planned flagship schools.
