Adam Medrano scores decisive win, keeps Dallas ISD board seat

Dallas school trustee Adam Medrano scored a decisive victory Saturday over opponent Pedro Alvarez in the race for the school board's only contested position.
Mr. Medrano easily held onto the District 8 seat, in the city's northwest corner, that he filled two years ago after the sudden death of former trustee Joe May.

Mr. Alvarez, 36, is a registered nurse who has never before run for public office.
Mr. Medrano, 32, is a community program manager for the city's Park and Recreation Department and is the school board's first vice president.
"It's an honor to have the district's vote of confidence," Mr. Medrano said. "I'm looking forward to continuing my hard work on the board, and to helping us reach our goal of becoming the best school district in the country."
Board president Jack Lowe and Trustee Carla Ranger were uncontested in their districts and will retain their seats for another three years.
