Floyd: Irving tries to keep the lid on city manager's pay package
11:59 PM CDT on Tuesday, June 23, 2009
Irving City Manager Tommy Gonzalez seems disinclined to chat about his new salary contract, which is truly breathtaking. All told, his compensation package for the coming year could be worth upward of $440,000.
By conventional public-administration standards, that's superstar money. It's more than the managers in Dallas and Fort Worth make, maybe the best city manager's salary in Texas.
A head-to-head comparison is difficult to make because packages are calculated on base salary plus benefits, which vary from city to city. But I think we can all agree that for government work, it's not too shabby.
