Denton, Collin candidates to mingle at V.P. debate-watching party

FRISCO – Voters can mingle tonight with Denton and Collin county political candidates and meet representatives of state and federal candidates before joining them to watch the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.

The Frisco Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free election fair and debate watching party at the Westin Stonebriar Resort hotel, 1549 Legacy Drive at Highway 121.

"We just want as many people to be part of this incredible year and come out to meet the candidates and have fun," said chamber Vice President Tony Felker.

Activities begin at 6 p.m. with games, trivia and mingling. There will be food and a cash bar. The vice presidential debate starts at 8 p.m., followed by commentary from Democratic and Republican party officials. Voter registration will also be available.

Confirmed participants include:

* Collin County commissioner candidates Joe Jaynes, Victor Manuel, Kathy Ward, Jean Power and Matt Shaheen

* Denton County commissioner candidates Hugh Coleman and Phyllis Wolper

* Supporters and opponents of the Denton County bond proposal

* Collin County Judge Keith Self

* State Rep. Ken Paxton

* Collin County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Dodd

* Campaign representatives for state Rep. Burt Solomons; U.S. congressmen Ralph Hall, Sam Johnson and Michael Burgess; Sen. John Cornyn; and presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.
