2 firefighters injured battling Lake Dallas

Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion this morning after a four-alarm blaze at an apartment building in Lake Dallas.

The fire was reported about 1:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Lake Way Drive near Lewisville Lake, said Greg Ward, a driver with the Lake Cities Fire Department. The two Lake Cities firefighters were treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Liberty fields solar car in race

In less than three weeks, six students from Liberty Christian School in Argyle built their first solar vehicle to compete in the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge.

They spent the first part of this week just trying to make their car qualify for the four-day racing event at Texas Motor Speedway.

“We have not yet passed inspection,” team captain Clint Carter said Monday as his team worked during the first of four racing periods in the Classic Division.

Motivated by interest in science, engineering and alternative energy, the challenge invites high school teams from across the country to build an electric vehicle powered by the sun.

By noon Tuesday, the Liberty Christian team still wasn’t racing. This time they were working on the tracking section of their car. But three hours later, after finally passing inspection, they were waiting in line to be called to compete.

“We have another half-hour to go,” Carter said Tuesday afternoon.

The event continues through Thursday.
