Season series: Toronto leads, 1-0

Scouting the Blue Jays

RHP Roy Halladay (1-1, 4.20 ERA): One thing Halladay does well is pitch deep into games. He went seven innings in his first start and eight in his second, allowing seven earned runs with nine strikeouts and three walks. He has given up four homers so far. Halladay is just 3-3 with a 6.93 ERA in nine starts in Arlington, including a loss last year in which he allowed nine runs on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Loves to face: Ian Kinsler (1-for-9)

Hates to face: Michael Young (12-for-35, HR, 7 RBIs)

Update: Toronto is 0-4 in games decided on the final at-bat. Last season, the Blue Jays posted a record of 16-19 when the game was decided on the last at-bat.

Scouting the Rangers

RHP Luis Mendoza (first appearance): Mendoza is making his first start of the season after pitching well on Monday for Triple-A Oklahoma. Mendoza has worked to make his change-up better to complement an above-average slider. The blister on the middle finger of his right hand isn't giving him trouble anymore. He was 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in three starts for Texas last season. He's never faced Toronto.

Update: C.J. Wilson continues to move up the charts for all-time saves by a left-hander in Rangers history. His two saves in Thursday's doubleheader gave him 17, moving him past Paul Lindblad and into fourth place. Mitch Williams leads with 32.
