Season series: Rangers lead, 2-1

Scouting the Rangers

RHP Eric Hurley (1-1, 3.52 ERA): Hurley, who has been on the disabled list since June 30 with a strained left hamstring, will be making his fifth career start. He's lasted at least five innings in each of the first four. This will be only Hurley's second start against an AL club. In the other, his major league debut, he allowed four runs in six innings against Kansas City, including a pair of home runs. Hurley has never faced the White Sox.

Update: Though Eddie Guardado had three-ball counts on all four hitters he faced in the eighth inning Sunday, he escaped without allowing a run. In the last month, he's compiled a 0.82 ERA in 11 innings over 12 appearances and has lowered his season ERA to 2.80.

Scouting the White Sox

RHP Javier Vazquez (7-7, 4.61 ERA): Vazquez, fifth in the AL in strikeouts with 117, is 2-1 in four career starts against the Rangers. In April 2007, he allowed four hits in six innings, but the Rangers scored three runs on those hits. He's been in a slump since June 1, allowing a .310 average in seven starts and compiling a 6.80 ERA. He's allowed at least four runs in six of those seven games.

Loves to face: Ian Kinsler (1-for-6)

Hates to face: Frank Catalanotto (9-for-23)

Update: With two hits Sunday, Jim Thome became the ninth player in history to have at least 2,000 hits, 1,500 walks and 500 home runs. Thome has 104 hits (.263 batting average), 28 homers and 86 walks in his 118 career games against Texas.
