Chris Davis considers himself a good dresser, so he talked about his fashion sense and some tips for looking good.
So who gives you advice on what clothes to wear?
I've had a few people in the past help me out, past girlfriends, say, 'Hey, that's not really good or that looks nice.' I like the loud stuff, the bright orange shirts or mango, and they've helped me tone it down to a more elegant, classic style. My best consultant was an ex-girlfriend. We still talk, but it's a little different.
What are some keys to good fashion?
Your shoes have to match your belt. You don't wear black and brown. You want everything to together. Don't wear something that looks out of place or doesn't fit. You want to wear stuff that's in, not stuff that was in 20 years ago unless it's considered vintage. I try not to wear the same shirt in the same week, but sometimes that's hard if we're on the road. I try to keep a variety and keep people guessing.
What about shoes?
I have a lot of pairs of shoes. That's kind of like my thing. I probably have at least 12 pairs, which for a guy is a lot. I have a pair of brown shoes I wear out, a pair of casual shoes, flip flops, tennis shoes, black, there's a lot of them.
Do you have some nice formal attire?
I need to get a little thicker in the suit area. I have a couple of suits for special occasions. I have a black one, and I'll switch a few shirts and ties. I'm looking at a light brown, but it's hard to do because you don't want to pick one that washes you out. There's a trick to it, and I haven't learned it yet. I saw some guys wearing good-looking suits at the Sluggers of the West banquet in January, and I took some notes and scoped some things out and hopefully I can get one soon.
Some folks get custom jeans, do you?
I've been measured for jeans because my legs are a little longer. Most guys with long legs are thinner, and I'm not. I have a thicker lower half, smaller waist, big butt and big thighs. Sometimes it's hard to find jeans. I've been measured a couple of times. I know a lot of places out here that I can go and find jeans I know can fit, so it's not too bad.
Do you wear hats outside of the ballpark?
I'm a big hat guy. I hate doing my hair all the time. I have expanded my horizon with the hats. Went with the little cabby hat, I've got a couple of those. I've been brave enough to wear them out on a couple of occasions and people have commented on them. If you feel comfortable with what you're wearing, that's what really matters.
Fire (fair): OF Josh Hamilton continued his red-hot spring with a grand slam in the third. Hamilton's blast probably went about 400 feet.
Walks (foul): RHP Josh Rupe had three consecutive walks as he struggled in the eighth. He got the blown save and the loss.
Top (fair): The first two guys in the order for the Rangers – Ian Kinsler and Frank Catalanotto – were 4-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
