RHP Felix Hernandez (2-3, 3.42 ERA): The Rangers made Hernandez work like never before in his last start against them Thursday in Seattle. He threw 112 pitches in five innings, an average of 22.4 per inning. In his previous 11 starts against Texas, Hernandez averaged only 15.8 pitches per inning. He took the loss Thursday, his first to Texas since Sept. 18, 2006.
Loves to face: Milton Bradley (0-for-7)
Hates to face: Michael Young (9-for-30)
Update: Ichiro began Monday with 16 stolen bases, tops in the AL. He also is closing in on the Mariners' all-time record of 290, held since 1983 by Julio Cruz. Ichiro had 288 entering Monday's game.
LHP Kason Gabbard (1-0, 1.85 ERA): Gabbard has pitched just 5⅔ innings in the majors since April 17 because of injuries. He missed two weeks after his back stiffened up at Boston on April 21, then pitched 3⅔ innings before being charged by Richie Sexson last Thursday. Gabbard suffered bruised knees in the altercation.
Loves to face: Adrian Beltre (1-for-6)
Hates to face: Ichiro Suzuki (5-for-8)
Update: The Rangers now have nine players on the disabled list with the assignment of Kevin Millwood to it.That's tied for second most in the majors behind the New York Yankees, who have 10.
