NBA won't punish Jackson
He's been ejected twice during playoff series with Mavericks09:45 PM CDT on Wednesday, May 2, 2007
NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Wednesday that Warriors guard Stephen Jackson will not be punished for getting ejected with 8.9 seconds remaining in Game 5.
But Frank said the league is still looking at an incident involving guard Jason Richardson, who got tangled up with a fan on the front row after falling into the crowd. The Mavs and NBA security personnel interviewed the fan. A final decision is expected today.
"Nothing really happened, actually," Richardson said at practice Wednesday. "I didn't say anything to nobody, man."
Golden State coach Don Nelson fined Jackson for mock clapping at officials and getting the boot just before the end of Dallas' 118-112 win on Tuesday. Jackson said he wasn't mocking anybody, just trying to support his team. It was the second time he's been ejected in this series.
"That's a situation where I can't do nothing," Jackson said. "I can't even support my team. But it's all good. We're going to close this thing out [today]."
Jackson said if he was going to blow up at officials, he would have done it in the first quarter after picking up two fouls in the first two minutes.
"Why blow up when there's eight seconds left and the game is over?" Jackson said. "Do I have 'moron' written on my forehead when I walk out on the court or something? I don't.
"I'm smarter than a lot of people think, and I'm just going to continue to play basketball and do what I do."
Frank also said the league will not address Jason Terry, who took down Warriors guard Baron Davis in front of the visiting team's bench.
Barnes hamstrung: Matt Barnes walked gingerly into practice at American Airlines Center and wasn't about to test a slight hamstring injury. Barnes said he initially felt some pain in the first quarter. He still logged 35 minutes and scored 16 points.
Barnes said he would spend Wednesday night and this morning in the Golden State training room to get ready for Game 6. "I'm going to play no matter what," he said.
Should Barnes be unable to go, Nelson said: "I play another one of the Schmoes."
No Cuban talk, please: Mavs owner Mark Cuban addressed his past relationship with Nelson prior to Game 5. The coach wasn't interested in offering a rebuttal to Cuban's comments. Although, Nellie couldn't resist getting in one jab.
"You guys know Mark Cuban," Nelson said. "He tries to crush everything in his path. I'd really rather not get involved in discussing those situations."
