SportsDay's All-Big 12 Baseball Team
11:37 PM CDT on Tuesday, May 23, 2006
McCulloch, a right-handed junior from Houston, was a star on the best pitching staff in the conference. He was 6-1 in nine conference starts and posted a league-best 2.08 ERA. Texas Tech managed just two earned runs in McCulloch's only conference loss. Using an array of pitches, he struck people out (79) and allowed few walks (27). With McCulloch leading the way, Texas was the only pitching staff to post a team ERA under 4.00 in conference play. The junior from Atlanta, Texas, has enjoyed his best season as a Longhorn. He hit .371 in conference play, which ranked sixth, and a career-high .347 overall. Stubbs had seven home runs, seven doubles, two triples and 27 RBIs in Big 12 play. Opposing pitchers worked around him. Stubbs drew 39 walks, stole 23 bases and scored 57 runs. All of those totals were in the top three in the league. He should earn All-America honors again and become a first-round draft pick this summer. Oklahoma State was picked to finish sixth. Anderson's club won 21 of its final 25 games during the regular season and finished second. It's the Cowboys' best finish since 1997. Now OSU is poised to host an NCAA regional, probably as a No. 1 seed. Kieschnick was an all-state pick at Rockwall. He quickly established himself an All-Big 12 player at Texas Tech. Kieschnick hit .357 in league play, which ranked 10th, and had a .531 slugging percentage. Overall, he batted .369 with eight home runs, 14 doubles and two triples. Expect to hear his name more the coming years. Gorsett hit 25 home runs at Garden City (Kan.) Community College in 2005. That power translated well at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Neb. Gorsett, a junior from Denver, hit 15 home runs and drove in 48 runs for the Huskers. He also had nine doubles in league play.
