Women's tournament preview: UT-El Paso

No. 7 seed, Spokane Region

First-round matchup: vs. Western Kentucky (26-7), 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.

Outlook: This is UTEP's first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Miners finished with their best record in school history. SMU beat UTEP, 73-57, in the Conference USA Tournament title game to end the Miners' 23-game winning streak.

UTEP has four players who average double figures in scoring, led by 5-3 sophomore guard Jareica Hughes (14.7).

Western Kentucky was the Sun Belt Conference's East Division champion this year with a 16-2 record. The Lady Toppers beat Middle Tennessee State, 65-49, to win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title. They have won seven consecutive games and 20 of their last 22.

Senior forward Crystal Kelly ranks sixth in the nation in scoring (22.7 ppg) and eighth nationally in rebounding (10.6 rpg). She leads the nation in field goal percentage (.649).
