Recruiting buzz: Iowa State making impact in Texas

Mansfield Timberview OT Jared Edwards is the second local recruit to orally commit to Iowa State, joining Mesquite DE D.J. Marshall.

Eleven players from Texas have committed to Iowa State and first-year coach Gene Chizik, the former Texas defensive coordinator.

Edwards said Tuesday that Chizik is sending a positive message to recruits.

"He knows what to do," Edwards said. "He knows what to work on. We're going to win a lot of games there."

DeSoto RB Cyrus Gray will take his first official visit this weekend, to Notre Dame. He expects to go to Louisville next week. He probably will take the rest of his visits in January and wants to make trips to California and Florida. He still considers Texas A&M to be one of his top schools.

South Grand Prairie junior DE Russell Dent already has an offer from Oklahoma State, and he visited Texas A&M on Saturday when it lost, 19-11, to Kansas. He also is interested in LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas.

  • Click the "OK" button to exit the internet options window.
  • Refresh the page
