Fantasy football picks for Week 17
01:14 PM CST on Saturday, December 29, 2007
In many ways, Week 17 is a crapshoot.
Normally, reliable starters sit out much or all of their games, while backups often rule the day.
So, for better or worse, here are my picks to roll, or get rolled, among players on the Week 17 bubble in standard fantasy leagues.
Derek Anderson, QB, Cleveland vs. San Francisco: With postseason hopes alive, and an apathetic team coming to town, the table is set for another outstanding performance from Anderson and his stellar receiving corps.
LenDale White, RB, Tennessee at Indianapolis: The Colts won't have their foot on the gas in this one, so the Titans won't need to pass to keep pace. White will carry the load, and his team's playoff hopes, on Sunday night.
Kenny Watson, RB, Cincinnati at Miami: Rudi Johnson is still bothered by his hamstring (shocking!), leaving the door open to another juicy start for his bulldozing backup. Bill Parcells' glaring eyes won't help the Dolphins' league-worst rush defense.
Jerricho Cotchery, WR, NY Jets vs. Kansas City: With Laveranues Coles out, Cotchery has been the most reliable target on his team. He should finish strong at home in this matchup of awful teams.
Santana Moss, WR, Washington vs. Dallas: He burned the Cowboys for 121 yards and a score in their Week 11 meeting, and he will need to have a similar outing with a wild-card berth at stake. The visitors have little more than pride on the line.
Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis vs. Tennessee: Jim Sorgi will play at least half the game – probably closer to all of it – as the franchise watches from the sideline after making his 160th consecutive start. In years past, Manning has played just one series in meaningless Week 17 contests.
Earnest Graham, RB, Tampa Bay vs. Carolina: He left early last weekend and will undoubtedly do so again Sunday. Michael Pittman and Michael Bennett should pick up the slack.
Marion Barber, RB, Dallas at Washington: He needs 19 yards to reach 1,000 for the season. In this postseason dress rehearsal, don't count on much more than that.
Joseph Addai, RB, Indianapolis vs. Tennessee: If he doesn't score early, he won't be of much value in your lineup. Kenton Keith, or even Clifton Dawson, are better bets against a motivated Titans defense.
Wes Welker, WR, New England at NY Giants: Tom Brady and Randy Moss need two scoring hookups to break important NFL single-season records. They should get them, but Welker probably won't play a big role.
Charlie Batch, QB, Pittsburgh at Baltimore: Ben Roethlisberger is expected to sit out Sunday's game. Batch has a history of strong performances from the bench, andhe should have little trouble dissecting the Ravens' reeling secondary.
…plays for a title in Week 17 of 2008. Insist that your league change its schedule for next season to avoid the mistake it made this year.
