Switch to Osgood won't hurt Red Wings
12:24 AM CDT on Friday, April 18, 2008
Dominik Hasek has lost confidence in himself.
That happens when you hit 43 – trust, me.
Of course, when the best franchise in hockey puts its faith in you, lost confidence is a problem at any age.
But the fact the Detroit Red Wings are probably going to go with Chris Osgood for the remainder of their first-round playoff series against the Nashville Predators shouldn't alarm anyone. Osgood is probably better than Hasek right now.
Does he have the potential for greatness, the ability to win a game by himself the way the eccentric Czech does? Of course not. But the Wings don't need that. They need a guy who is not going to lose them games.
Chris Osgood can do that. He has won a Stanley Cup. He's 35. He led the NHL in goals against average this season at 2.09.
Ask the Stars if he's good enough to win the Cup.
They know he is.
