Tim MacMahon's NFL week 4 preview

03:29 AM CDT on Sunday, September 28, 2008

Game Time Pick
Arizona (+1½) at NY Jets Noon Arizona, 27-21
Brett Favre was the NFL's story of the summer, but the Cardinals' Kurt Warner has been the league's best greybeard quarterback this season.

Minnesota (+3) at Tennessee Noon Tennessee, 17-14
If you enjoy watching good passing games, avoid this game at all costs. Both teams are playing with washed-up backup QBs and awful receiving corps.

Denver at Kansas City (+9½) Noon Denver, 38-10
Broncos QB Jay Cutler's stats might drop after a phenomenal first three games, since he should spend the fourth quarter holding a clipboard and stifling giggles.

San Francisco (+5) at New Orleans Noon New Orleans, 31-20
San Francisco fans had better enjoy the view above .500 while it lasts.

Atlanta (+7) at Carolina Noon Carolina, 24-14
Don't be fooled by the Falcons' 2-1 record. They beat the Lions and Chiefs, a couple of teams that would be middle of the Big 12 pack.

Cleveland (+3½) at Cincinnati Noon Cincinnati, 24-21
Had the Browns been this bad last season, Darren McFadden would be a Cowboy, not that fans here are complaining about the Arkansas RB whom Dallas drafted.

Green Bay (+1) at Tampa Bay Noon Green Bay, 24-17
If Green Bay falls to .500, I probably won't hear nearly as much about this prediction as the last time I incorrectly picked the Packers to win.

Houston (+7) at Jacksonville Noon Jacksonville, 27-17
As a fantasy owner of Matt Schaub and Sage Rosenfels (deep league), I sure hope the Texans make a change under center.

Buffalo at St. Louis (+8) 3:05 p.m. Buffalo, 24-7
Rams QB Marc Bulger set a league record for quickest benching after signing a $60 million deal.

San Diego at Oakland (+7½) 3:05 p.m. San Diego, 35-20
Maybe Norv Turner, who has experience coaching for crazy Al Davis, will take it easy on lame duck Lane Kiffin.

Philadelphia at Chicago (+3) 7:15 p.m. Chicago, 17-13
Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook are banged up, making the Eagles prime candidates to be upset victims on the road.

Baltimore (+5½) at Pittsburgh 7:30 p.m. Monday Pittsburgh, 16-10
Steelers will win with dominant defense, as long as rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall's butterfingers don't hand the Ravens easy points.

Last week / season

Straight: 10-5 / 17-17

vs. line: 10-5 / 24-20
