Thursday's game highlights
Minnesota 6, Stars 310:02 PM CST on Thursday, January 3, 2008
1. Marian Gaborik, Minnesota: Two goals and an assist. The Stars saw what his speed can do.
2. Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Minnesota: The sidekick to Brian Rolston and Pavol Demitra came up with a goal and two assists.
3. Brent Burns, Minnesota: Solid defense and three assists.
1st: The Stars were handed two quick power-play opportunities and squandered both, surrendering a short-handed goal at the 9:50 mark to Marian Gaborik. Pavol Demitra and Pierre-Marc Bouchard followed with goals in the next 3:24, and that sent Stars goalie Marty Turco to the showers. Stu Barnes made it 3-1 with his fourth goal in the past six games. Replacement goalie Mike Smith was then stung by a Gaborik goal after a Steve Ott turnover to finish out the period.
Minnesota 4, Stars 1
2nd: Brenden Morrow ended the first period with a fight, and Krys Barch started the second period with another. That seemed to light a fire under the Stars. Eric Belanger pushed the Wild lead to 5-1 with a power-play goal on the second of two consecutive penalties by Mike Ribeiro. Dallas then came roaring back. Steve Ott scored on a backhand after a nice pass from Mike Modano. Matt Niskanen then scored his third goal of the season.Minnesota 5, Stars 3
3rd: Dallas tried to mount a comeback, but the Wild would not give any room. Smith had a couple of nice saves, but Ott took a bench minor and a game misconduct to seemingly to suck the air out of the team. In the final five minutes, Wild forward Mark Parrish came rushing off the bench and beat Morrow to the front of the net to chip in the final goal.
