Key match-up: Paul Kariya vs. Jeff Halpern

After Kariya lit up the Stars for a third-period hat trick the last time the teams met, expect coach Dave Tippett to try to get Mike Modano's line out against Kariya as much as possible. With Kariya a left wing and Halpern a right wing, they should meet a lot.

Key stat: 25.3

The Blues rank last in the NHL in average shots on goal per game at 25.3. Dallas ranks fourth in fewest shots on goal against at 26.0.

Injuries

Dallas: LW Jussi Jokinen (knee), RW Jere Lehtinen (sports hernia) and D Philippe Boucher (shoulder) are out.

St. Louis: LW Martin Rucinsky (shoulder) is out.

Notable

The Blues are coming off a 6-1 win over Columbus on Tuesday. ... St. Louis lost a 5-4 shootout game in Dallas on Dec. 29. ... G Manny Legace was the NHL's first star last week. He has allowed two goals in his last four starts and had a 187:39 shutout streak end last game.
