Three stars

1. Mike Modano, Stars: Jump, defensive presence and two assists. He looked like he was hoping for a shot to play with Richards.

2. Brad Richards, Stars: Still trying to fit in, but he made some nice plays and scored his first goal in a Stars uniform.

3. Steve Ott, Stars: There had to be an answer physically after Saturday, and Ott delivered it.

Highlights

1st: The Stars dominated in the period, drawing an early power play and cashing in just as the man advantage expired. Stu Barnes slipped a rebound shot past the toe of Colorado goalie Jose Theodore after a hard shot from Trevor Daley at the 3:56 mark. Stephane Robidas then scored on a big shot from the point, registering his career-best seventh goal of the season. Daley held his own in a fight with Kurt Sauer, and Steve Ott dominated a fight with Ruslan Salei. The period ended with no shots on the scoreboard for Colorado, but off-ice officials added a shot for Scott Hannan from 47 feet at the 19:23 mark.

2nd: The Avalanche began to create scoring chances, and the Stars continued to get physical. Mattias Norstrom decked Paul Stastny in a battle in front of the net, and even Mike Modano and Brad Richards tried to throw hits (both missing). Dallas made it 3-0 at the 6:55 mark when Brenden Morrow made a nice pass in transition to Richards on the right wing, and Richards scored his first goal in a Stars uniform on a one-timer from distance.

3rd: The Stars clamped things down and finished out the game – a clear departure from Saturday in Denver. Turco stopped seven shots, including an early blast from Ben Guite. Dallas put only five shots on goal but played a solid puck possession game and shut things down in front of the net.
