Three stars

1. Michal Handzus, Los Angeles: Breaks 42-game stretch without a goal by scoring two in final 3:01.

2. Rob Blake, Los Angeles: Came up with big first-period goal and was instrumental in holding Dallas Stars off the board in key situations.

3. Erik Ersberg, Los Angeles: Rookie goalie controlled rebounds and showed impressive calm in crease.

Game highlights

First period: Led by Steve Ott, who returned after a three-game suspension, the Stars came out with energy and took a 1-0 lead. Ott had four hits in the first period, and Dallas scored on a power-play tip by Brenden Morrow. Matt Niskanen took a shot from the point, and Morrow redirected the puck between the pads of goalie Erik Ersberg for his 29th goal of the season.

Second period: Los Angeles brought energy and scored on the power play when defenseman Rob Blake rolled to the front of the net, outmuscled Stephane Robidas for position, and then fought to push a rebound past Marty Turco at the 5:48 mark. Stars coach Dave Tippett started juggling lines, and the players responded by grabbing the momentum. Stu Barnes, who was moved to a line with Mike Ribeiro and Morrow, tallied his 10th goal of the season at the 11:32 mark on a top-shelf wrister.

Third period: Dallas seemed in control and ready to ride out a 2-1 victory, when the bottom fell out. Trevor Daley lost a puck battle with Michal Handzus, and Handzus used Daley as a screen to shoot past Turco for the tying goal with 3:01 remaining. Turco then lost his bearings on a battle at the net less than a minute later and never recovered. After a quick rimming pass, Lubomir Visnovsky whipped a shot past a disoriented Turco with 2:06 remaining. Handzus then tallied his second goal of the game with 1:19 left.
