Dallas Stars-Anaheim Ducks Game 1 replay

Stars 4, Ducks 0

12:48 AM CDT on Friday, April 11, 2008

First period: Stars 2, Ducks 0

Replay: The Stars' power play ranked fourth in the NHL on the road. Both goals came with the man-advantage. Steve Ott redirected a Stephane Robidas shot through the legs of Jean-Sebastien Giguere. On the second power play, Brad Richards whipped a pass to Loui Eriksson in the high slot for a goal.

Robidas does it to Ducks again: The Ducks need a new scouting report on Robidas. He had two goals and an assist in a career game against Anaheim on Feb. 15. In the first period Thursday, he assisted on both Stars goals.

Not in the box score: With a boost from three power plays, the Stars closed the period with 10 unanswered shots.

Dallas: 12 shots; 2 goals

Anaheim: 8 shots; 0 goals

Second period: Stars 4, Ducks 0

Replay: Pretty much the same formula as the first period – Anaheim penalties translating into Stars goals. Jere Lehtinen gave the Stars a three-goal margin on the power play, taking a behind-the-net feed from Mike Ribeiro. Then Ribeiro found Brenden Morrow going hard to the net.

Second-period success: The Stars were the NHL's best team in the second period, outscoring opponents, 92-51. It carried over Thursday.

Not in the box score: Ribeiro's ability to create isn't just happenstance. Case in point: the fourth goal. After he took a pass to the right of the Anaheim goal, he began to back up. Anaheim defenseman Sean O'Donnell moved away from the net to follow him, leaving a vacuum that was neatly filled by Morrow.

Dallas: 15 shots; 2 goals

Anaheim: 8 shots; 0 goals

Third period: Stars 4, Ducks 0

No plus or minus: The game serves as a textbook example for those who distrust plus-minus numbers. Because of the power-play goals, every player ended the game even.

Not in the box score: After failing to record a postseason shutout in his first 23 playoff appearances, Marty Turco has blanked the opponent four times in his last seven games, dating to last season.

Dallas: 10 shots; 0 goals

Anaheim: 7 shots; 0 goals
