Stars captain Brenden Morrow was the one who finally put San Jose to rest, sending Dallas to the Western Conference finals to face the Detroit Red Wings.

Morrow deflected in the puck off a Stephane Robidas pass at the front of the net for the game-winner on a power play at the 9:03 mark to give the Stars the 4-2 series win.

The Stars' first power-play chance after regulation came when Sharks defenseman Brian Campbell was called for a tripping penalty on Loui Eriksson in the right corner of the Stars' zone as both players were scrambling for the lose puck.

A game that saw 117 shots on goal (62 by San Jose) and dazzling save after save finally came to an end at around 1:30 a.m., with less than half of the more than 15,000 fans left at American Airlines Center.

The first three overtime games of the series ended within the first five minutes of the first overtime. But this one was full of drama until the last second.

Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov was amazing in the first overtime. He made one spectacular save after another to stymie the Stars' attack.

Nabokov's best save came early in the first overtime when he denied Stars center Brad Richards at the 1:31 mark.

Richards was alone on the right side when the puck bounced his way. Nabokov was out of position, covering the other side of the goal, and Richards had an open net in front of him. Richards fired a shot that Nabokov grabbed with his glove while fully extended. The shot was ruled no goal on the ice but had to be reviewed.

The video review showed that the puck, while in Nabokov's glove, was over the goal line but never completely went past the line.

In the second overtime, the Sharks appeared to be shooting wide of the goal from the point on purpose in an effort to play the rebound off the boards and create havoc for Stars goalie Marty Turco in front of the net.

The Sharks outshot the Stars, 11-2, in the second overtime despite playing without Milan Michalek, their top goal scorer in the series who was injured at the end of regulation on a hit by Brenden Morrow and never returned.

Each team had shorter shifts in the third overtime as tired legs ruled the ice. The Sharks created more scoring chances, but Turco stood his ground.

Ryane Clowe and Torrey Mitchell almost combined for a goal at the 9:51 mark of the third overtime. Clowe slid the puck to Mitchell right in front of the net. Mitchell fired a low, line drive shot from 8 feet away to the left of the goal that Turco smothered. A video review confirmed that Turco had stopped the puck before it crossed the line.

Right winger Antti Miettinen provided the Stars with some unexpected help on offense. Miettinen, who had only one assist in his eight previous playoff games this postseason, gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at the 4:49 mark of the second period.

Sergei Zubov missed a shot from the right point, and the puck bounced back to Miettinen, who was charging in from the left side. Miettinen fired the rebound in from 15 feet away for the second playoff goal of his career.
