11:54 PM CDT on Thursday, May 8, 2008
Free agent winger Fabian Brunnstrom is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Stars as soon as today, according to his agent, J.P. Barry.
Brunnstrom, 23, has been pursued by about 20 teams after making the decision to come to the NHL. Barry said Brunnstrom picked the Stars because of his respect for the organization and because of the opportunity to play quickly.

"Les Jackson did a very good job of presenting the positives of the organization, and Fabian really felt this was the right fit for him," Barry said of the Stars' co-general manager who engineered the deal.
Brunnstrom (6-1, 203) is a late bloomer who was undrafted at age 18. He played in Division I in Sweden in 2006-07 and had 36 goals among 73 points in 41 games. Last season, he moved up to the Swedish Elite League and saw his scoring drop to nine goals among 28 points in 54 games.
Brunnstrom will have a base salary somewhere near $900,000, and could add bonuses that push the deal to nearly $2 million a season.
