Key match-up: Stars penalty kill vs. Chicago's power play

The Stars entered Friday's game with an 87.5 kill percentage, allowing two goals in 16 short-handed situations. The Blackhawks have been the NHL's worst team with the man advantage the last two years. In their first three games this season, Chicago went 0-for-10 on the power play.

The Stars are looking for their first road victory. They have lost to Colorado, 4-3, and Nashville, 5-1.

Injuries

Dallas: G Mike Smith (bruised arm) is out. D Niklas Grossman (shoulder) is questionable.

Chicago: F Martin Havlat (shoulder) is out.

Notable

Blackhawks winger Martin Mavlat has begun skating, but his injured right shoulder could require surgery. If so, that would be his third in three years. ... Chicago sent LW Pierre Parenteau, who played only five games last year, to the New York Rangers for a conditional 2008 draft choice. ... The Stars ranked second in the league in faceoff percentage (56 percent) entering Friday's game. San Jose (56.2) was No. 1.
