Three stars

1. Mike Smith, Dallas: Stole two points with 33 saves and a perfect night in the shootout.

2. Rick Nash, Columbus: A goal, and assist, and just a tendency to be in the Stars' face all night.

3. Jussi Jokinen, Dallas (left): Gets the Stars' first goal and then tallies the only goal of the shootout. Sure it's a gimmick, but Jokinen does it as well as anyone.

Game highlights

1st Mike Smith was shaky early in goal and in handling the puck, but he quickly settled down after Rick Nash blazed a wrister off the rush past Smith's stick. Dallas allowed 17 shots on goal, including some point-blank scoring opportunities. However, Smith was up to the task as he shut things down and allowed Jussi Jokinen to tie the game on a tap-in at the edge of the crease off a nice cross-ice feed from Stu Barnes.

2nd The Stars were again outshot, this time 11-6, and outchanced. The Stars went 0-for-2 on the power play and got no shots on goal in that span. Nashville had four minutes of power play time and tallied five shots on goal. Brad Winchester got in a fight with Jared Boll and Sergei Zubov wrestled Boll after Boll ran over Mike Smith.

3rd The Stars finally created some offense with nine shots on goal in the first eight minutes of the period, but then Mike Modano took a hooking penalty and put Columbus on the power play. The Blue Jackets got lucky and worked hard as Smith tried a poke check and the puck was pushed past him and hit the post. Then, Columbus' Jiri Novotny dove to poke the rebound in for a 2-1 lead. Dallas tied the game when it pulled the goalie and Brenden Morrow scored from the slot with 1:11 remaining in regulation.

Stars 2, Columbus 2

OT Columbus got two shots on goal to one for the Stars. The Jackets were buzzing around Mike Smith, but didn't really force a great save.

SO Jussi Jokinen's backhander was the only goal of the shootout. Mike Smith stopped wristers from David Vyborny, Jason Chimera and Rick Nash.
