Three stars

1. Jason LaBarbera, Los Angeles: Kings goalie was great in the first period and fantastic in the third as Dallas could not dent him on two power plays in the final six minutes.

2. Marty Turco, Dallas: Gave the Stars every chance to win (or at least get a point). Kept game close when it could have gotten out of hand in the second period.

3. Alexander Frolov, Los Angeles: Play off boards gave Kings the game-winner they needed.

Game highlights

1st period: Dallas controlled play early and that paid off in a late goal for Jere Lehtinen. The Stars' top line of Brenden Morrow, Mike Ribeiro and Lehtinen had several strong cycling shifts in the period and finally broke through at the 16:05 mark. Lehtinen kept a puck alive in the slot, and Ribeiro fed it to Morrow behind the net. Morrow then sent a softy saucer pass out into the slot and Lehtinen smacked in a one-timer for his second goal in as many games.

Stars 1, Los Angeles 0

2nd period:The Kings slowly started to take over and then dominated the second period. Los Angeles finished with a 19-6 advantage in shots on goal in the period and tied the score on a Brian Willsie goal at the 10:00 mark. The Kings buzzed around Marty Turco, and Mike Cammalleri put a shot on a goal that Turco stopped. Willsie picked a rebound off Turco's pads, carried the puck around the splayed goalie and flicked in a shot.

3rd period: The Kings carried the momentum out of intermission and scored at the 1:40 mark of the third period. Alexander Frolov made a nice play off the boards and then flashed to the net. He took a pass from Derek Armstrong and beat Turco for a 2-1 lead. Dallas controlled much of the remainder of the game, but Kings goalie Jason LaBarbera wouldn't let the Stars tie it.
