DeSoto boxer reaches world championships

DeSoto boxer Errol Spence earned a berth on the U.S. under-19 team by defeating Juan Heraldez of Las Vegas, 10-5, on Saturday in the 152-pound final of the national championship tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
The U.S. team will compete in the world tournament starting Oct. 25 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Spence, 18, trains at Vivero Gym in Dallas.
Erick Hernandez of Garland lost in the 178-pound final via TKO to Robert Brant of Minnesota.
