TP&W proposal is given approval

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has approved Texas Parks and Wildlife's proposal for a 70-day dove season and 15-bird daily bag limit for the entire state. The service also approved a 16-day teal duck season for Texas. Teal season dates are Sept. 12-27.

Season dates for doves are Sept. 1-Oct. 25 and Dec. 26-Jan. 9 for the North and Central Zones. The South Zone season will be Sept. 18-Nov. 3 and Dec. 26-Jan. 17.

The South Zone and Central Zone bag limits increased from 12 birds daily to 15. The North Zone, which already had a 15-bird daily bag limit, received 10 additional days of hunting season.

Japan lake may have largemouth record

There were unconfirmed reports last week of a potential world record largemouth bass caught from Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan.

The angler was reported as Manabu Kunta and the fish is said to have weighed 10.12 kilograms, just less than 22 pounds, five ounces. The largemouth bass record is the most hallowed of all fishing records.

George Perry caught the existing world record, 22 pounds, four ounces, from Montgomery Lake, Ga., on June 2, 1932. It's been generally accepted that the next world record would be caught in California.

Night season gets rolling at Lake Fork

Josh Kuykendall started off the Lake Fork night fishing season with a bang on June 5 when he boated a largemouth bass that weighed 13.2 pounds.

Kuykendall's fish bit a Lake Fork Tackle Black Neon Worm. He was fishing with guide Robert Littlejohn.

Night fishing is a way to beat the summer heat but it's also a good method for catching oversized bass.

Littlejohn said night fishing at Fork is generally good on either side of a full moon. The July full moon occurs Tuesday.

FLW Tour season is coming down to wire

With one tournament remaining on the FLW Tour season, Brent Ehrler of Redlands, Ga., holds a three-point lead over Clark Wendlandt of Leander, Texas for Angler of the Year honors.

Final standings will be decided July 9-12 at Lake Champlain, N.Y.
