FRISCO – Forwards Arturo Alvarez and Kenny Cooper responded with one goal each as FC Dallas earned its first win this season, a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls.

Both young strikers have netted five of FC Dallas' six goals to keep the team unbeaten in three matches.

"We looked dangerous up top throughout the game, created some good chances in the first half. There could have been a couple of more goals," FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow said.

FC Dallas forward Kenny Cooper celebrates his second-half goal against the New York Red Bulls.

The win gives FC Dallas (1-0-2) second place with five points in the West Conference, one point behind Colorado (2-1-0). New York fell to 1-1-0.

Cooper made it 2-0 with his third goal of the season. Defender Adrian Serioux collected his first MLS assist when Cooper took his long pass from the left-side midfield into the open space at the 66th-minute mark.

Cooper, a Jesuit graduate, then beat Red Bulls defender Chris Leitch on the run, tapped the ball over goalie Jon Conway to give FC Dallas some needed peace of mind.

"I've been getting some good services in the last few games," said Cooper, MLS leading scorer.

It was Cooper's first home goal since Oct. 7, 2006. Between this span he scored six goals, all on the road.

Alvarez gave FC Dallas the lead only 51 seconds into the match. He headed home a cross from midfielder André Rocha, who collected his second assist in MLS.

It was the second-fastest score in franchise history. Aaron Pitchkolan set the record with a 31-second goal against Chivas USA on May 22, 2005.

Unlike the match against Houston last week, when Morrow kept attacking in injury time, the coach strengthened his back line when his team took the two-goal lead.

In the last stages, Morrow put in defensive midfielder Marcelo Saragosa for playmaker Rocha and defender Pitchkolan entered for playmaker Juan Toja.
