FRISCO – So much for its unbeaten season.

Khano Smith's goal in the 72nd minute was enough for the New England Revolution to defeat FC Dallas, 1-0, Thursday night at Pizza Hut Park.

FC Dallas entered the game as the final unbeaten club in MLS this season, but Smith dribbled from the left side past Dax McCarthy, faked Drew Moor with a move to his right and fired with his right foot for the match's lone score.

FC Dallas (2-1-2, eight points) remains atop the Western Conference, but Colorado could take the lead with a win over Chicago on Saturday.

"I think we deserved to get something out of the game," FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow said. "New England came in here and stole the game from us. We really dominated the game."

Dallas had been getting off to fast starts, but New England's defense closed spaces for Jesuit product Kenny Cooper and Arturo Alvarez.

Revolution goalie Matt Reis stopped a scissor kick by Juan Toja in the 23rd minute, Dallas' first threat of the night.

"Our goalkeeper made two great saves," Revolution coach Steve Nicol said. "We had six starting players injured that did not come here, and taking three points, certainly we didn't steal it. We were solid and went forward when we had to."

Dallas' defense tried to come to the rescue.

Duilio Davino helped the attack on free or corner kicks, searching for his first MLS score.

Marcelo Saragosa also contended for a ball near the half-moon area, and Andre Rocha attempted a long-distance shot.

New England tested Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala three times in the first half, including a shot from Revolution captain Shalrie Joseph fired from about 30 yards.

Dallas had better ball control in the second half, and Toja threatened from long distances.

Rocha also had chances from afar, but Smith's goal put Dallas in a bind. The Revolution left four defenders back in the waning moments.

Dallas scrambled for the tying goal, but all it received was caution issued to Alvarez for simulating a foul inside the penalty area.

Pablo Ricchetti, Davino and Ricardinho had opportunities to tie but couldn't convert.
