Former FC Dallas star Kreis suspended by MLS
05:22 PM CDT on Thursday, July 10, 2008
NEW YORK – Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis was suspended for the second time this season by MLS, which banned him for two games and fined him $2,000 Thursday for publicly criticizing officials.
After a scoreless tie against Houston on July 3, Kreis complained to local newspapers about the red card shown Chris Wingert in the 90th minute and noted that he thought stoppage time ended too quickly.
"I'm tired of it, I'm exasperated – this is absolutely ridiculous, every single week we play here I feel like we're playing away," said Kreis, who spent most of his playing career with FC Dallas and is the franchise's leading scorer.
Every 50-50 call goes against us," Kreis said in comments published by the Deseret News and The Salt Lake Tribune.
"My man (Nat Borchers) gets pushed down in the box, the defender has his arms up in front of him showing everybody he's clearly pushed my man down in the box and we don't even get a thought of a penalty kick. Where's the linesman then to help the referee? He was certainly there a few weeks ago to call a non-offsides against us," the Deseret News quoted Kreis as saying.
Kreis will miss Saturday's game against Columbus and one the following Saturday at Chicago.
The first-year coach also sat out a game and coughed up a $1,000 fine after criticizing officials following a 2-2 tie with Los Angeles on May 8.
