Penalty kick spoils FC Dallas' shot
02:06 AM CDT on Sunday, July 29, 2007
FRISCO – SuperLiga games are starting to have a familiar theme for FC Dallas.
For the second straight match, FC Dallas ended with 1-1 draw because of a controversial call, this time against Pachuca on Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park.
After a Carlos Ruiz goal, FC Dallas blew a 1-0 lead with three minutes to go on a Christian Gimenez questionable penalty kick to the delight of a pro Mexican crowd of 7,953 fans.

"It's a very disappointed locker room out there," FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow. "We got another controversial decision, for me on a penalty kick, which got them back on the game."
During its first SuperLiga match against Chivas, FC Dallas also had a 1-0 lead, before allowing a goal on what appeared to be a hand ball that wasn't called.
Now FC Dallas has two draws, instead of two wins. But it still has a chance to advance to the semifinals with a win against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Tuesday at Pizza Hut Park.
With the score 0-0, Pachuca started the second half strong, although the defending Mexican champions couldn't generate a clear scoring chance.
Then Dominic Oduro, who came into the game in the 71st minute, hit a Bobby Rhine cross. Pachuca's goalkeeper Miguel Calero tipped the shot, but Ruiz was there to chip in the rebound in the 75th minute.
But in the 87th minute, FC Dallas defender Adrian Serioux was called for tripping Pachuca midfielder Damian Alvarez inside the box that led to Gimenez's penalty kick.
"I think it was [a penalty kick]," said Pachuca coach Enrique Meza. "It was called. At the moment it happened, I didn't turn around to see on the screen, if it was or wasn't."
FC Dallas still could have pulled out the victory in stoppage time. Oduro wasted an opportunity on a one-on-one with Calero, trying to find Ruiz on the other side, instead of shooting.
"We were very unlucky for the second straight game," Clarence Goodson said.
Sala back in goal: Dario Sala returned as the FC Dallas starting goalkeeper Saturday after missing the last match with a strained left MCL.
Sala, who injured himself in practice last Monday, said he was ready to play after doing some drills about an hour before the match.
Ray Burse, who started in place of Sala on Tuesday in the 1-1 draw against Chivas, was listed as the backup goalkeeper. Second-string goalkeeper Shaka Hislop is out with back spasms.
Also midfielder Ramon Nuñez of SMU, who has asked to be traded, was out of the 18-man roster for the second straight game.
For Pachuca, midfielder Andres Chitiva didn't start because of a right hamstring injury. He came off the bench in the 69th minute.
No signing yet: Negotiations between FC Dallas and Brazilian Denilson de Oliveras appear to have slown down.
"We're still negotiating," Morrow said. "Sometimes you think you're close in negotiations and then you realize you're not."
Since team rosters could be expanded to 30 players for SuperLiga, FC Dallas included him on it, just in case negotiations advanced further.
