FRISCO – Richard Nunez gave area Mexican soccer fans a glimpse of what he can do with his new club.

The Uruguayan forward's goal in the 75th minute gave Club America a 2-1 win over Toluca on Sunday in an InterLiga match before 18,702 fans at Pizza Hut Park.

America, which is undefeated in two InterLiga matches, secured one of the spots in next Saturday's final four in Carson, Calif.

"Toluca couldn't force the ball up when they were at their best," said Nunez, who signed with America in the off-season. "But I think we played well and were superior in the second half."

Nunez also contributed indirectly to the tying score. Toluca goalkeeper Hernan Cristante stopped a shot by Nunez in the 64th minute, but Alejandro Arguello was there to convert the rebound for his second goal in InterLiga play.

Toluca striker Vicente Sanchez had tormented America up to that point. He threatened goalie Guillermo Ochoa early and often and converted in the 14th minute to put Toluca ahead.

"It was a good game, but all of a sudden we let too many things slip in the first half," Sanchez said. "America had some chances in the second and took advantage."

America faces Atlas on Wednesday in Carson, Calif., to close first-round play in Group A.

Atlas 2, Morelia 0: Argentinean forward Bruno Marioni scored twice as Atlas moved a step closer to the InterLiga final four.

A tie on Wednesday against Club America would give Guadalajara-based Atlas a berth in next weekend's round.

Morelia was eliminated from the tournament and finishes first-round play Wednesday against Toluca.

Marioni took advantage of an errant Morelia kickoff in the 14th minute to convert against goalie Moises Munoz.

In the 68th minute, Marioni received a pass from Jorge Acucharro, turned and fired against a helpless Munoz.

"We're getting better and better, and we're headed to Los Angeles looking for the win," Atlas forward Ulises Mendivil said.
