StarCenter complex in Frisco getting $40M expansion
06:02 PM CDT on Friday, July 25, 2008
The Deja Blue Arena at Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco is undergoing a $40 million expansion to allow more types of events.
The StarCenter is home to the Dallas Stars hockey team. The Deja Blue Arena hosts Frisco Thunder, a team of the Intense Football League.
Work recently began to add 1,500 hockey seats, four luxury suites, a private club and a kitchen and concession area and another parking garage for the arena and StarCenter.
When construction is completed in May 2009, the arena will have 5,000 hockey seats and 12 suites.
The arena and its ice rink are closed during construction. The StarCenter’s rink, which is the Dallas Stars’ official practice site, remains open.
“We were very limited before because we didn’t have the ability to retract seats to put up a stage and we didn’t have the sound and video ability,” said Randy Locey, executive vice president of business operations for the Dallas Stars hockey team and Dr Pepper StarCenters.
The arena will be able to host music concerts, family shows and sports events, he said.
The first event scheduled for the expanded arena when it reopens is a Frisco high school graduation, Mr. Locey said.
