Girls basketball: Krum seniors co-MVPs in District 9-3A

The Krum Lady Cats were well-represented on the 9-3A all-district team after making their second state tournament appearance in school history.

Krum seniors Julia Schmaltz and Rachel Wallace were named co-MVPs of the district, while Diamond Martinez was named Newcomer of the Year and head coach Lana Degelia was named Coach of the Year.

Allison Beck and Callie Craddock earned first-team nods for the Lady Cats as well.

Sanger’s Allie Millican was named co-Defensive Player of the Year and Carissa Spiker was named the district’s top newcomer. Natalie Castillo and Candice Prater were selected to the first team.

In District 5-5A, Ryan senior guard Teana Odgen landed on the first team, while senior center Danielle Richardson made the second team.

Guyer junior Quamese Moss was named the district’s top offensive player, while freshman Bre Wickware was the Newcomer of the Year. Senior Tierney Peters was named co-Sixth Man of the Year.

Guyer seniors Bre Clay-Baker and Katy Davis earned first-team honors. For Lake Dallas, Megan Dando and McKenzie Harrison earned first-team nods, as did Denton’s Myesha Taylor.

Lake Dallas’ Dre Robinson earned a second-team spot, joining Denton’s April Pena and Guyer’s Ola Akinniyi.

Argyle junior Bailey Eschle was named District 10-3A’s Newcomer of the Year. Senior Allea Harris was named to the first team, joining Argyle sophomores Jesse Sheridan and Delaney Sain.

In District 9-2A, Ponder’s Madison Stout made the first team. Kayley Harper, Emily Nicholson and Shayla Cozart all represented Ponder on the second team.

Pilot Point’s Hannah MacElory earned a spot on the District 12-2A second team.

Once again, the all-district teams far exceeded the traditional five starting spots on a roster. In 9-2A, which included state champion Brock, 13 individuals were named to the first team. District 5-4A boasted 11 on its first team, while 9-3A had nine first-team athletes.
